Panos Mitsopoulos was born in Itea in Greece. He graduated in 2004 from the Rietveld Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam. One of the major themes in his work is “cozy cage” in which he compares the life of a canary in a cage to the life of man in the contemporary metropolis. Using the canary yellow colour in different ways, he has designed
cages, some comfortable, some suspended in the air and some with a vain attempt of breaking out. The work of Panos Mitsopoulos expresses resistance and instability, reflecting the feeling of caged freedom inherent in every phase of transition and change.
